India's Intended Nationally Determined Contribution [INDC] on "Climate Change"

Pursuant to the decisions of the Conference of Parties [CoP] of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change [UNFCCC], India announced on October 02, 2015 its INDC. The main targets envisaged under INDC include the following:

 

  1. To reduce the emissions intensity of its GDP by 33 to 35 % by 2030 from 2005 level.

 

  1. To achieve about 40 % cumulative electric power installed capacity from non-fossil fuel based energy resources by 2030 with the help of transfer of technology and low cost international finance including from Green Climate Fund (GCF).

 

  1. To create an additional carbon sink of 2.5 to 3 billion ton of CO2 equivalent through additional forest and tree cover by 2030.

 

2.In 2009, India also undertook a voluntary pledge of reducing the emission intensity of its GDP by 20-25% over 2005 level by 2020.
