1. State Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir were recently concluded successfully with an unprecedented electoral turnout of over 65%, highest in the past 25 years. Results of elections to 87 seats in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly have been declared. As per the J & K Election Commission, 10,015 polling stations were set up in 87 constituencies to facilitate about 72, 25,000 voters of Jammu and Kashmir.
2. Out of a total 111 seats, 24 seats remain vacant for Pakistan Occupied Kashmir [PoK] and elections were held for the remaining 87 seats. The elected legislative members serve for a period of six years.

4. The high turnout is significant against the background of boycott calls given by terrorists and intimidation faced by the electorate as well as candidates from terrorists. Terrorists attempted to disrupt the campaign process by specifically targeting and killing sarpanches in Sopore, Shopian and Baramulla.
5.Despite threats to life, a total 821 candidates, including 276 independents, contested elections.
6. Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party [JKPDP] has won 28 seats, Bharatiya Janata Party [BJP] has won 25 seats, Jammu and Kashmir National Conference has won 15 seats, Indian National Congress has won 12 seats and others [including independents] won 7 seats.
7.The high-turnout and active participation in the election process reflects faith of the people of Jammu and Kashmir in realising their aspirations through participation in the regular democratic processes of the country.
